A Small Business, Some Lovely Recognition — and an Exciting Few Months for FBBC

When I launched Friday Brain Building Club in July, it was with a very simple idea: to give children something fun, challenging and screen-free that would get them thinking — without feeling like another piece of homework.
A few months in, it has been incredibly exciting to see that idea beginning to travel a little further. FBBC has recently received some lovely recognition, from local press coverage to being welcomed into the Buy Women Built community, and it feels like a good moment to stop and celebrate some of those early milestones.
FBBC in the press
One of the biggest challenges when you launch a new business is simply getting people to know that you exist. So I've been incredibly grateful to see Friday Brain Building Club featured by three brilliant local publications.
The Bath Magazine has featured FBBC and the story behind the business, while The Bath & Wiltshire Parent shared how my experience in education — and life as a mum of three — led me to create the club.
We've also been featured in the Gazette & Herald, which looked at FBBC's aim of helping children develop their thinking skills through regular, engaging activities.
Seeing FBBC talked about beyond our own website and social media has been a real milestone. For a very young business, that kind of independent recognition helps build trust — but, more importantly, every article introduces FBBC to more families who might enjoy what we're creating.
Joining Buy Women Built
Another particularly exciting milestone has been Friday Brain Building Club being accepted into Buy Women Built, a community that champions female-founded businesses and encourages people to support brands built by women.
As a sole female founder — as well as a mum of three and someone who has spent more than 15 years working in education — building FBBC has involved wearing rather a lot of hats!
Being welcomed into a community of other women doing the same is both exciting and encouraging, and I'm very proud that FBBC is now part of it.
Still just the beginning
There is lots more I want to do. I want to get more children thinking, puzzling, reading, reasoning and discovering new words. I want FBBC to remain affordable for families. And I want the business to have a wider social impact too, through our support for the National Literacy Trust and by getting free sheets into the hands of children beyond our subscriber community.
So although these early pieces of recognition are lovely, they feel much more like a beginning than a destination.
Thank you to everyone who has subscribed, shared a sheet, recommended FBBC to a friend, displayed our sheets, sent feedback or simply cheered us on. Every bit of support helps a small business grow.
We're building brains one Friday at a time — and I'm very excited about where we go next.
