How Friday Brain Building Club works for Homeschooling

A fresh screen-free activity sheet every Friday, designed to fit around your home learning routine. No lesson planning, no pressure - just fresh challenges that build skills week by week.

Friday, 7am.

An email arrives with this week’s brain-building sheet. Sequenced - not random - so each week builds on the last.

Print it.
Leave it out.

Print at home and leave it on the kitchen table, or take it wherever your home learning day leads you!

Solve at their own pace.

One puzzle over breakfast, a few throughout the day or the whole sheet at once. Your homeschooling routine, your way.

Work independently.

Clear instructions and answers included, so children can work increasingly independently - with no extra preparation for you.

Perfect for homeschooling families, each weekly sheet brings together engaging numeracy, literacy, vocabulary and problem-solving challenges. Children can choose where to start, work independently or tackle puzzles together — making it easy to fit meaningful, screen-free learning into your homeschooling day.

Word of the week

Contextualised with a sentence-level definition, synonym & antonym. It may appear a week or two later in the crossword or polygon.

Crossword

Knowledge-building clues with extra stretch for older kids. Boosts their vocabulary, spelling and word-level problem solving.

Literacy skills

Verbal reasoning activities help kids understand, interpret, and think critically about language.

Numeracy skills

Build strong logical thinking, maths fluency, focus, and resilience without doing repetitive drills.

Curious fact

Designed to spark dinner-table conversation and build knowledge over time that can be used at any time or place.

Stretch & challenge

Work out word search clues and crossword answers from synonyms, antonyms or other hints - keeps them thinking hard!

Our Mission

Building curious, confident and independent home learners

Fosters curiosity and a love of learning

Bring curiosity into your home learning routine with engaging activities that children genuinely enjoy tackling.

Develops problem-solving skills

A wide variety of activities and puzzles that allow children to think independently, deduce, and solve.

Durable and flexible knowledge

Key skills and knowledge are revisited in different ways each week, helping children make connections and strengthen their understanding over time.

Promotes literacy and numeracy skills

A screen-free choice of activities to practice handwriting, expand their vocabulary, and process arithmetic.

Builds resilience

Constructive frustration is a natural step in learning. The intentional design encourages children to walk away from a tricky puzzle and return with fresh eyes.

Builds educational independence

Allows learners to pick their own starting point, work at their own pace, and take charge of their learning now and in the future.

Connects families

A shared activity that brings parents and children together, encouraging conversation, collaboration and curiosity as part of everyday home learning.

Created by an experienced educator, designed for curious young minds

Knowledge

Created and curated by Joey, Cambridge alumna with an MA in Education.

Experience

Backed by over 15 years of experience in the UK education sector.

Evidence-informed

Developed with a deep understanding of the evidence around how children think, learn and remember.

Loved by parents

I love seeing my son's brain whirring! He loves the challenge of the crossword and seeing him work out the anagram independently was brilliant. Quick wins peppered through the sheet are great! Highly recommend.

Charly (mum of 2)

We love the FBBC because it strikes the sweet spot between fun and intellectual challenge.

Sophie S (mum of 3)

Brilliant activity sheets to keep kids entertained and challenged. I particularly like the word of the week section - my children aren't avid readers and this has helped enhance their vocabulary - as well as the polygon.

Sophie L (mum of 2)

My son used to struggle with word problems, but now he actually slows down and looks for patterns in the language. He’s started spotting clues in questions that he used to miss completely.

Sarah (mum of 3)

We’ve noticed a real improvement in her literacy skills. She’s started using new vocabulary from the sheets in everyday conversation—last week she even used the ‘word of the week’ correctly in a sentence at dinner.

Emma (mum of 1)

The numeracy challenges are really well designed. They don’t just drill times tables—they make him think about how numbers relate to each other. He’s much more confident explaining how he got his answers.

Jenna (mum of 3)

I like how it builds logical thinking. My daughter now approaches puzzles by looking for patterns first instead of guessing. You can actually hear her thinking through problems more clearly.

Isobel (mum of 3)

It’s made learning more connected. The mix of literacy and logic means he’s starting to see links between words and meaning, and he’ll point out patterns in spelling or word structure that he’s learned from the sheets.

Melissa (mum of 3)

We’ve tried lots of worksheets over the years, but this is the first thing my son and daughter actually looks forward to. It feels more like brain training and problem-solving than regular homework, and I’ve noticed they're both much more confident tackling tricky problems on his own.”

Alice (mum of twins)

I love that it’s completely screen-free. It’s become part of our Friday routine—my daughter sits down with it after school and really gets absorbed. It’s helped her slow down and think things through rather than rushing for answers.

Anna (mum of 2)

The mix of maths, English, and logic is brilliant. It’s not repetitive like other resources we’ve used. You can actually see the way it’s building their thinking skills week by week.

Jess (mum of 2)

As a parent, I appreciate that I’m not expected to teach it. I can sit with my child and encourage them, but the sheets are clear enough that they can work independently. It’s really helped build resilience.

Liz (mum of 2)

It’s such a simple idea, but really effective. My daughter feels proud when she completes each sheet, and I’ve noticed she’s started approaching schoolwork with a lot more confidence.

Kelly (mum of 2)

Excellent

Loved by kids

I really like the FBBC. I liked all the puzzles, especially the number towers.

Jasmine S (age 10)

I love the polygon; I really enjoyed seeing how words are formed from sequenes of letters.

Jack (age 11)

I really like the wordsearch where you have to work out the synonyms before finding the words - much more interesting than a normal wordsearch puzzle.

Lara (age 9)

I used to guess the answers, but now I look for clues in the question first. The puzzles make me think properly, and I like when I finally work it out myself.”

Freddie (age 8)

I started using one of the new words from the sheet at school and even at dinner. My mum was surprised I knew what it meant and how to use it!”

Maxie (age 8)

I like the number puzzles because they’re not just times tables—you have to think about how the numbers fit together like a game.”

Raffie (age 6)

The logic puzzles are my favourite. I try different ways to solve them instead of just giving up if it’s hard. I feel really proud when I get it right.”

Cara (age 10)

It’s fun because everything links together. I notice patterns in words and numbers now, and I sometimes spot answers faster than I used to.”

Claudie (age 11)

I have learned how to check my answers and not get frustrated when I can't do it first time. Friday is my favourite day of the week now!

Benji (age 8)

Frequently Asked Questions

How can Friday Brain Building Club fit into our homeschooling routine?

Friday Brain Building Club is designed to fit easily into your homeschooling week, without adding another formal lesson to your timetable. Each Friday, your child receives a fresh sheet of screen-free puzzles and challenges covering vocabulary, numeracy, logic and problem-solving. You might use it as a morning warm-up, an independent activity between lessons or something to enjoy together over the weekend. The activities revisit and build on key skills over time, helping children develop confidence and flexible thinking alongside their wider homeschooling learning.

Are the activity sheets suitable for homeschooling children of different ages and abilities?

Absolutely. Friday Brain Building Club offers two levels: Simple (approximately ages 7–9) and Stretch (approximately ages 9–11). These are guides rather than strict age limits, so you can choose whichever best suits your child's confidence and current abilities. This flexibility is particularly useful for homeschooling families, where children often progress at different rates across different subjects. If you're homeschooling siblings, you can also subscribe to both levels, giving each child an appropriate challenge without needing to source separate activities.

Do the homeschooling activities support the National Curriculum?

Friday Brain Building Club isn't a formal curriculum or a replacement for your homeschooling programme. Instead, our weekly activity sheets complement your child's learning by developing skills that underpin many areas of the National Curriculum, including vocabulary, numeracy, reasoning and problem-solving. The activities encourage children to apply what they know in different contexts, make connections and think independently. They're designed to provide an enjoyable extra challenge without adding another structured lesson to your homeschooling day.

Can my child complete the homeschooling activities independently?

Yes! Our activity sheets are designed to encourage children to think for themselves, try different approaches and develop confidence in tackling challenges independently. For homeschooling families, they're a useful activity to leave out while you're working with another child or preparing the next lesson. Some children may need a little guidance initially, particularly when encountering an unfamiliar puzzle type, but they'll gradually become more confident as they recognise recurring activities and develop their own strategies. And of course, the puzzles can be just as enjoyable to work through together!

What makes Friday Brain Building Club different from other homeschooling resources?

Unlike traditional homeschooling worksheets, Friday Brain Building Club isn't designed to teach a particular lesson or follow a textbook. Instead, our weekly sheets encourage children to think, reason and solve problems through a carefully planned mix of vocabulary, numeracy, logic and verbal reasoning challenges. Skills and knowledge are deliberately revisited in different contexts over time, helping children make connections and build confidence. Each sheet is screen-free, takes very little preparation and offers a fresh challenge every Friday, making it an easy addition to your existing homeschooling routine rather than another lesson to plan.

What is Friday Brain Building Club?

Friday Brain Building Club is a weekly subscription that delivers a single, carefully designed activity sheet for children aged 7–9 (Simple sheet) or 9-11 (Stretch sheet). Each sheet includes numeracy, literacy, and problem-solving challenges to help build thinking skills in an engaging, screen-free way.

How do the sheets progress week to week?

Each sheet is designed to build on previous learning. Key skills and knowledge are revisited over time in different contexts, helping strengthen retention and understanding. By mixing numeracy, literacy, and problem-solving, children are encouraged to think flexibly and apply strategies rather than repeat the same patterns. As they progress, new learning is designed to connect to prior knowledge, making it easier to understand and retain. In this way, each sheet builds steadily on preceding sheets, creating a continuous learning journey.

What age group is it for?

There are two options: the Simple sheet is designed for children aged 7–9 years, and the Stretch sheet is for 9-11 year olds. However, you can opt for either sheet irrespective of their age as we know children have varying levels of prior knowledge and attainment. Just let us know if you'd like to try both for a week or two before you choose.

What does my child receive each week?

Every Friday, your child receives:

  • One double-sided brain-building activity sheet
  • A mix of maths, literacy, problem-solving and logic puzzles
  • Activities designed to be completed by hand in pencil at any time
Is it screen free?

Yes. All activities are designed to be completed in pencilon the sheet itself, encouraging focus, handwriting, and independent thinking away from screens.
